Biography

Interests: R&D in optics (integrated optics) chemistry (inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry) and glass technology.

EDUCATION

1974 - 1979 St. Petersburg State University, Russia, Chemical department, Specialization: Inorganic Chemistry with MS diploma “Chemist”.

1980 - 1981 St. Petersburg State University, Russia, Geological department, additional course "Micro crystallography and immersion analysis"

1985 - 1989 Postgraduate in Vavilov State Optical Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia, specialty: Physical Chemistry. Thesis: “Crystallization kinetics of glass forming liquids at transition between compound and eutectic”.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

1979 - 1997   Vavilov State Optical Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia.

Junior Researcher, Research Scientist.

Participated in many projects.

Main research interests: Physical and chemical properties of glasses (glass crystallization, crystallization kinetics, chemical resistance). Phase diagrams of multicomponent glass forming systems (DTA, X-ray analysis, immersion microcrystal analysis). Development of new types of glasses with special physical and optical properties (based on TiO2 and GeO2), special glasses for optoelectronics and integrated optics. Glass technology (glass melting, glass heat treatment). Glass standardization (crystallization ability, chemical resistance). Wave-guide technology (include ion exchange technique and evaporation), wave-guide testing.

1994 - 1996  Work with Corning Inc.

Participated in project "R&D active (Er-doped) oxygen free glasses and waveguide producing in chalcogenide and fluorozirconate glasses".

04.1997 - 04.2003 Optonex Ltd. Finland, Chief R&D Scientist

Optonex has long experience in design, development and production of optical components, especially

in the area of integrated optics.

I was in charge of the development of the ion-exchange processes. Low loss waveguide fabrication

process fully developed and demonstrated DWDM components.

It is cost effective, flexible and reliable ion-exchange technology, which make possible to produce wide

range integrated optical devices such as: DWDM, splitters, amplifiers and other in wide range of

glasses. Devices for burial process bought by several firms in USA and Israel.

Additional tasks: Development of custom heat treatment devices and ovens.

11.2003 - Until now. IFMO University, Chair of Optical Information Technologies and Materials, Head of Laboratory. Main interests: Development of new types of glasses with special physical and optical properties, photosensitive materials, PTR glasses.

Author of more than 60 scientific publications.
